Have you ever had a brilliant idea for your business but found yourself in an endless loop of procrastination or making a hundred edits of the one thing. Or perhaps you’ve avoided a big opportunity because you convinced yourself you weren’t ready.

You are not alone!

Most successful entrepreneurs find themselves getting in their own way. It’s this little thing called self sabotage.

What is self sabotage?

Self sabotage isn’t the lack of willpower. It’s your brain trying to protect you. Inside your mind rests the amygdala, a tiny almond shaped structure designed to keep you safe. When it senses danger, physical or emotional it triggers the fight or flight response. Your heart races, your hands sweat and your rational brain ( the prefrontal cortex) pretty much goes offline.

But in this modern world it can misinterpret situations causing it to go off in times where we aren’t in danger.

A product launch, raising your prices, a client pitch can seem like a threat. Fear of failure, imposter syndrome, perfectionism or the weight of expectations can all activate the amygdala.

It hijacks your thinking brain, leading to procrastination, over preparation or playing small.

Over time your brain associates new challenges with danger and those neural pathways strengthen.

Common limiting beliefs in Entrepreneurs:

If you are a business owner you may recognise some of these patterns.

Fear of failure:” If I fail, everybody will judge me”. This belief could potentially trigger procrastination or cause you to play small.

Imposter syndrome: Despite your success you feel like a fraud and expect to be “found out”

Perfectionism: You tweak and change endlessly, delaying launches or feedback.

Fear of success: Growth means more responsibility and visibility which your unconscious mind equates to risk.

Going alone: You believe you must do everything yourself leading to isolation and burnout.

Beliefs aren’t character flaws they’re neural shortcuts your brain uses to avoid perceived pain. Fortunately the brain is plastic, it can change and create new connections throughout your life.

That’s where hypnosis comes in.

How hypnosis rewires your brain:

Hypnosis isn’t magic it’s neuroscience. During a hypnotherapy session you enter into a relaxed state of focussed attention where your conscious mind quiets and your unconscious mind becomes more receptive. ( A bit like getting into the control room of your mind so that you can make changes at the place that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours start in the first place).

As this trace like focus allows us to by pass the gate keeper of our mind, the critical mind so that you can have access to the beliefs and memories stored in the unconscious mind.

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Coach I help you identify these limiting beliefs so that you can change what’s driving your current behaviour.

Through guided visualisation and positive suggestions I help you change the old narrative that’s being holding you back.

“If I speak up I’ll be rejected” to “When I share people value my insight.”

Hypnotherapy also allows you release trapped emotions by revisiting past events in a safe supportive environment so that you can process and let go of the emotions that feed self sabotage.

Build a positive future:

Visualisation of success strengthens neural pathways associated with positive outcomes which boosts confidence and with repetition these new patterns replace old ones. Neuroplasticity ensures your brain literally rewires itself making empowerment your new baseline.

A client story:

My client a successful business owner was doubting the launch of her app. She was stuck in the tweaking phase and kept on thinking, just one more thing and I’ll be ready to launch. But every time she planned to launch there would be a reason not to.

Underneath that self doubt was a childhood memory of being criticize for making mistakes. Through hypnosis uncovering this connection my client was able to release the emotions around this event and take the learnings from it allowing her to reframe it.

She began visualising people using her app and enjoying it.

This shift was transformational as she continued to go from strength to strength in her business. Her brain had now linked action with positive feedback not criticism .

Why hypnosis out performs willpower:

You might just ask yourself ” Can’t I just push through?”

Of course you can but willpower lies in the prefrontal cortex which has a limited capacity. Hypnosis works deeper changing the unconscious programmes that drive the behaviours.

Instead of battling with yourself you create new neural pathways so that you can transition from where you are now to where you want to be.

That’s why my clients often describe hypnosis as transformative.

P.S That’s me in the photo presenting at a Woman in Leadership Coaching Event. If you asked me years ago if that would be me I would have said “absolutely no chance”. I had the most debilitating fear of public speaking. I used to shake, say things backwards and turn red. That was until I discovered Hypnotherapy. I’ve been where you are. Sometimes we don’t realise how much our mind is trying to protect us from an old story but once we release that life changes in ways you don’t know yet.

Who knew I secretly loved public speaking and hosting events is my favourite part of my business.

I look forward to being part of your journey.
